Slater Barron: The Lint Lady
Slater Barron, the artist known as “The Lint Lady,” decided to use lint instead of oil paint when she was a recently divorced mother, and her dryer kept interrupting her oil painting. Slater’s lint art garnered nation-wide attention because her medium was so unusual, however, her most important work dealt with her parents’ struggle with Alzheimer’s, a little known disease at the time. In this intimate portrait, Slater, at age 80, lives with the ever-present memory of her parents and the possibility of becoming afflicted by Alzheimers’ herself while continuing her work as an artist.
